MONICA K.

Hey Jesna, i'm looking for a logo for my small business!

Would you be able to help?

JESNA V.

Hi, yes! Let's start with a quick call to talk through what you're thinking...

Step 1: Gathering Information

INITIAL DISCOVERY:

Monica had recently started a dog treat small business and was looking for a logo.

We started with an initial 30 minute call so I could learn about her business, understand what the product was, and gather as much information as possible about what she was looking for in a design.

I asked her lots of questions about why she decided to start her business, who she was hoping to sell to, what avenues she would be using to sell (instagram, markets, word of mouth, website, etc.), and what message she wanted to display with her logo.

Step 2: Ideation & Round 1 Designs

BRAINSTORMING:

I started brainstorming and mocked up some initial designs.

I wrote down everything I could think of and focused my energy on the information she had given me. I let myself explore a variety of different designs. Once I felt like I had a few ideas that had some potential, I started to draw them out.

Step 3: Round 2 Designs

DETAILED & FOCUSED MOCKUPS:

I created multiple versions of the bone and pupcake designs and we narrowed down further from there.

I wanted to keep the design simple and easily recognizable. It was simple messaging with the bone and the eucalyptus leaf but I played around with the placement and number of leaves. For the pupcake she like the overall design but wanted to adjust the bone biscuit so it would display horizontal.

Step 4: Adding Text

TYPOGRAPHY:

Once we picked a symbol I started playing around with typography.

Monica wanted to display the company name "Treatos and Co" and also what the product was. We decided to add in the phrase "All-natural dog treats" since that is really the value add she brings. Treats that are delicious and nutritious!

I ultimately decided to use 2 different font styles. "Satisfy" was the handwriting font I chose. I wanted something feminine and inviting. This is a small, woman-owned business and I wanted the font to tell that story. For "All-natural dog treats" I used an elegant and geometric font called "Josefin".  Together they created a look that was simple but welcoming!

Step 5: Final Designs

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER:

I put together a couple versions of the final logo using the color palette we chose.

I created the logo for different backgrounds, stickers, postcards, etc. I wanted to make sure she had a few different background options depending on the use case.

Impact

BUSINESS UPDATE:

Treatos & Co blew up on instagram and I got to see the impact of the logo I created for Monica in real time!

This was an incredible experience for me. Not only did I create something I was proud of, I helped a fellow small business owner reach a wide audience and make an impact! Enjoy the adorable event images below :)
